Bath in Fashion Day 1- a flavour

We are always saying that we are a broad church here at #BathinFashion, and our opening set of speakers on day one, proved just that.
But not before the Fashion Museum’s Rosemary Harden diligently placed the incredible gown from Nicholas Oakwell Couture in prime position inside the world famous Fashion Museum for all to admire. Designed for statuesque model Erin O Connor, and hand finished by the Royal School of Needlework the gown is adorned with rubies and ostrich feathers and is truly incredible and befitting its opulent surroundings.(Free to view)

The effortlessly easy-speaking #JustinePicardie thrilled us with her love and insight for the Harper’s Bazaar UK magazine she leads and talked us through how she made some of the incredible choices for the their infamous front covers. Continuing the theme of the thinking woman, she turned then to talk of her book depicting the life and work of trailblazer #CocoChanel. You could hear a pin dropped as we all sat mesmerised with Justine’s tales of independence and rule breaking. Truly inspiring both.

This was certainly a very impressive way to start our 2016 event.
Impressive too is Belinda Earl’s CV, from shop girl, to Head of Style at the nation’s favourite shop, Marks and Spencer. Earl told us ‘we have a core of customers as opposed to a core customer’.
Earl was asked if skinny jeans and jeggings were on their way out. NO, was the firm answer based on their tireless customer research. She was also asked what was the best thing about her job? ‘Being in Bath today’ she replied.
Also seemingly enjoying ‪#‎Bath‬ and the incredible surroundings that is the Bath in Fashion home at Fashion Museum Bath all this week were ‪#‎Vogue‬ photographer ‪#‎TimWalker‬ and fashion academic ‪#‎DrBenjaminWild‬ who share a love of ‪#‎CecilBeaton‬ Both are inspired by the ‘genius’ and they met tonight to share their favourite images either taken by Beaton himself or of himself, and as Walker told us ‘he loved taking pictures of himself.’ ‘That taking pictures was playtime’.
What a time indeed we had on day 1 of Bath in Fashion. Here are our top pics from Anthony Prothero Studio
